flood-signThe Northern Indiana Flood Recovery Operation (NIFRO)was formed in March 2008 by a variety of community and faith-based organizations to respond to the long-term recovery needs of individuals and families affected by the severe winter flooding of 2008. The overall Federal Disaster Area stretches from Benton County to the southwest to Allen County to the southeast and Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties to the north. Many local, state and national organizations joined together to deal with the immediate needs of this disaster by providing emergency shelter, clothing and initial clean up. However, additional assistance is needed across the State and right here in our own backyard to help these families get back to what will become their "new" normal.

NIFRO will focus on three (3) coordinated fronts: Construction & Volunteers, Case Management, and Fund Raising.

State Department Reminds Hoosiers to Report Tornado and/or Flooding Damage

Hoosiers who sustained damage caused by the severe weather and flooding in Central Indiana last week, are urged to call their local Emergency Management Agency (EMA). The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is working with the local EMA’s to quantify losses from the damaged areas and determine if federal assistance should be requested. Losses can include structural damage to homes and loss of personal property.
Callers will be asked to provide their name, address, phone number, damage to property and type of damage the property sustained. For a complete list of EMA’s, visit the IDHS website at: http://www.in.gov/dhs/3621.htm
